Temple Square

This Christmas season I was able to visit my old stomping grounds four times, I just can't get enough! While that statement is true, the first was with TJ and one of his mission companion's and his adorable girlfriend, the second time was with the young women, the third time TJ and I had done a quick trip to the temple and got out at 5:27 the lights come on at 5:30 and my brother Mike from CA just happened to be there however it was a crazy nut house so we went again with them this week. While I have a treasured memory and miracle of nearly every square inch of Temple Square, looking back at Christmas time is always a blur. I remember hearding masses of people up to the Christus, taking lots of pictures for people and talking to lots of church members and sleeping well every night. I'll have to go through my old journals and look up some seasonal memories. I do remember my first day as a missionary from the MTC was Christmas Eve, it was unseasonably warm and I remember taking people through the family display and passionately talking about the restoration with the zeal of a new missionary. That's all I got for now. PS we found this house up on 18th Ave with enough snowmen, mangers, and santas for all of Christmas St, probably all of Sugarhouse. We were telling scary stories and said now what would be creepy is if there was a guy sitting in the middle of all this, just then I looked in the garage and there was a man sitting there, who then walked out gave us candy canes and told us scary stories about the old Shriner's hospital.

Gag reflux won!

I feel like I can officially join the pregnant woman club, Sunday night our landlord made some kind of Thai something or other which smelled actually pretty good, I went to bed and when I awoke the spicy oniony smell filled my nostrils as the central heater turned on and the gag reflux finally won! It felt great and since then my nausea has gone down big time although now when a smell gets me the reflex is fresh and ready to do it's job. I've even cooked for TJ a couple nights in a row.

Food is good, gag!

Many people say that when you are pregnant one day you wake up and you are not nauseated anymore. I'm still waiting for that day to come. I sometimes wonder will I ever feel the same? The words I keep telling myself are food is good, food is good, you like food. But the bitter horrible truth is that every food smell makes me gag a little till I'm starving but the aftermath of eating is equally awful in it's own way. My sister was sick her whole pregnancy my mom just the middle, so far I'm in the 2nd trimester and wishing I could just sleep till it went away. The newest thing today is dizziness just before I was supposed to teach the young women at church I kept feeling like I had just spun myself around and laid down on the floor, luckily someone gave me 2 Starbursts and I managed through it all, anyway sorry about all my ranting but I just had to type my thoughts it an attempt that typing might convince myself, food is good, food is good, gag!

Give Thanks!

Thanksgiving was spent in a blur of Connolly's in St George, we were down 2 families which equated to about 43 people I believe. My sister Caitlin made these sweet t-shirts which we all pretty much lived in all weekend. A ping pong tournament was organized and some of us worked on our mad cheering skills! Black Friday TJ kept waking me up all night asking me if he should get a kitchen aid or not, I kept telling him not to worry about it and go to bed. However I awoke to a chrome kitchen aid on my dresser, it was like Christmas morning!!! My mom has had her kitchen aid for EVER and I initially learned to make a lot of things on it! I've burned out a motor on a hand-mixer so TJ was insistent that I get the mega wattage version he kept telling me that to go with lower wattage would be like using a cocoamotion. Unfortunately on Thanksgiving day Brian broke his leg during Turkey Bowl he didn't get to return home or to the "mansion" as I call it (it's really more of a vacation home I guess with 43 beds, pools, and other fun features) till Saturday:-( so sad. That's him sleeping with TJ. Anyway the things I am most greatful for are, my family, the new little one that is growing, I think it's just the coolest and my extended family and friends. I am also so greatful for my knowledge of Christ's gospel, sometimes I forget living in UT that the knowledge I have is so rare but I can't ever get over what a gift it is. I'm greatful for my life it is so much different than anyone I know but it has been so wonderful and so beautiful! I'm a lucky girl! Also I forgot to mention that I stole the awesome fam picture from Caitlin, thanks!

Nesting

Yes it's true I'm pregnant! I have lots of cravings and feel slightly sick sometimes but not too bad. However before I knew I was pregnant we were thinking about buying a condo and moving. All and all we felt really good about doing it good price, great location, it was cute had lots of perks and it is a friend of mine who's moving away. I prayed about it and got the answer TJ could take care of me and a baby where we currently live. I didn't think in the least that I was pregnant. We were hoping to be pregnant for the past couple months and I just didn't think it would happen anytime soon. I even started to think maybe we should put it off till TJ was done with school so that we could buy a home. Anyway TJ said if we stayed where we were I could make it as beautiful as I wanted. So I nested as my landlord calls it, his wife is about 6 months pregnant and nested when she was first pregnant too. I bought some artwork and we well TJ painted our kitchen table. Hopefully you like the black because that's the after. Great job honey! About 3 weeks later we found out I am pregnant I kind of had an inkling on our Mt Olympus hike as I was slower than usual plus I had consistently slower running times all week. TJ was taking a nap when I took the test, I showed it too him and he kept saying what does it mean and drawing a plus with his fingers, haha. That puts us at a June 30th due date. We're excited for our new little member, life is going to change!

Things found in the shower part II

The other morning my toothbrush was completely missing! Every couple weeks I have to remind TJ my toothbrush is purple his is NOT! Good thing we are married. Later when I hopped in the shower hoping to find my toothbrush there like last time I found this talk about multi-tasking!

Perfect meal for a rainy Sunday lunch

Greek Lemon and Orzo Soup AKA: Avgolemono Soup

Ingredients:

  • 64 ounces (8 cups) chicken broth
  • 4 Tbsp lemon juice (and I can tell no one read this because I just inserted lemon juice like a month later)
  • ½ cup orzo
  • 2 large eggs plus 3 large yolks
  • 2 drops hot sauce
  • Salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. In a soup pot, bring the broth to a boil. Stir in the orzo and boil for 5 minutes. Cover, remove the pan from the heat and let the orzo steep for 5 minutes.

  2. In a bowl, whisk the eggs and egg yolks, lemon juice and hot sauce. Whisk in ½ cup soup to temper the eggs, then whisk the egg mixture into the soup. Cook on low heat, whisking, for 5 minutes. Stir in the parsley; season with salt and pepper. Serve with pita chips.

A day without shower

This past Saturday was such a beautiful day. We awoke at 4:30 to hike Mt Olympus with some friends, overall it wasn't that hard but I just kept a rather steady and slow pace the whole way up. On top there is a journal to sign and a mailbox and flag through rock pelts to the head and cuts we made it to the very top. On the way down I ran till my big toes could take no more. I had several phone calls on the way down. One from my brother in law about my dear mission presidents passing. Pres. D. Michael Stewart was such an optimistic and positive person I would have guessed he was 64 tops and come to find out he was 71. He has had such an impact in my life. Looking back he is exactly the mission president I needed and now that I look back at the lessons he taught me they are even more powerful. He taught me to "kill the pig" which is a lesson I've really needed to remember lately. Basically something like 99% of our fears are just fears based on nothing but fear. When he was a little boy he slept in a crib and every night when the lights went out this pig would start snorting and pinch him I even recall it played instruments. He would yell to his mother and the pig would run away. Some time past and he eventually found out that the pig was his mother snoring and I think he pinched himself on the crib or something. Anyway lesson learned our fears are the same in that they usually are based upon our imagination, so we need to kill the pig and walk in faith! I should have recorded it, Pres Stewart was actually a motivational speaker. He taught me to fly like an eagle not a turkey. I will never forget his twinkling eyes especially as he sang "what a great day, what a great day, what a great day, ohhhhh, what a great day what a great day" repeated till you either smile or can't take it anymore, or when he showed up in green doing some Irish jig for some meeting or dressing up for the approved/unapproved clothing meeting. I'll never forget the counsel and guidance and blessings he gave me. Whenever I hear "Adam, where art thou" I will choke up and cry. I can't imagine how he loved all of us sisters like his own children and never forgot our names or who we were. How he let only my departing group have a sleep over in his house made for kids, (that's him standing behind us in his apron, cooking us great food) he told me he was just a big kid too and that is how they ended up with a fire pole from the top floor to the basement, lofts, secret studies, playhouses, and stage/indoor fire pits. He taught me that petty people talk about other people, mediocre talk about things, and great people talk about ideas! I'm still working on that one well all of them really. I have no doubt where this man is as he lived such a wonderful life. I can't wait to see him again! I wish I could have hugged him a few more times and seen his twinkly eyes and maybe learned a few more lessons at his feet but his lessons have hit me even more deep with his passing as I've contemplated what type of person he was/is and how that has impacted me. It was such a comfort to receive this news on such a beautiful day in such a peaceful place. Earlier in our hike our friends dog knocked some large rocks into a friends head as we were climbing the last bit, we told her "it's ok to cry", on my way down they in turn told me the same but I knew that nothing not even his departing this earth would ever dim that twinkle or mar his smile as he has the big picture in his mind and knows the greater plan.
The minute I arrived home we headed to Strawberry Reservoir for some mad fishing with the Connolly's, what a great day, what a great day ohhh!

The Mormon Bachelorette

One morning when I woke up to bolt my front door after TJ left for the Sunrise shift, I couldn't fall asleep. I went to Hooloo or however you spell that hoping to find old videos of Project Runway, instead I started watching the season finale of the Bachelorette, and then I wanted to watch the whole season, I recently stumbled upon this website, http://themormonbachelorette.blogspot.com/ so much more entertaining maybe because it's easier to relate to anywho enjoy! So far my vote is Bucky!

7 Daze

I decided while I'm waiting to switch my laundry I'll give a recap of the past 7 days . . . .

Richie, my bro in law became an eagle scout and joined an eagles nest full of Connolly's, during which all the ladies were left with all the children, I took a pic of Ben to try and distract him for just a minute longer, he's so cute. Congrats Rich! Friday morning we hit up the dinosaur museum with my brother and his family, good times! Baby Brynn loves Uncle TJ, so cute!!! Saturday consisted of a trip to Bridal Veil Falls and Cascade Springs, on the way there, my bro-in-law's motorcycle got a flat tire, luckily I was driving his truck and we all crammed in with the dog and baby in the back seat. TJ happened upon one of his mission companions. I arrived about an hour or so late to my friends baby shower, and then we baked and cleaned the rest of the day in preparation for Vince's baby blessing. Jesse made the best food I'm impressed. We headed up to Salt Lake just in time for a surprise for my brother-in-law Brian who has MS. Some generous donator dropped off a Segway at Dave's door. We were planning on a fundraiser to earn the $$$ for it. Anyway, Christy announced she's pregnant with a boy, hooray!!! Than the kids asked to come outside and watch their tricks, Dave road out on the Segway :-)
